Click has been following efforts in the US where police have been using AI and an algorithmic approach to tackling crimes. In the US potential criminals are selected for targeting before a crime is committed. Now similar techniques are being piloted in the UK to help prevent re-offending, and Marc Cieslak has been to Durham to see how AI is being used to choose which criminals to target with additional resources. As you might expect, such an approach is not without its controversies.
We're also looking at facial recognition - after showing some of the practices employed in China we speak to the biometrics commissioner about the situation in the UK and particularly the practice of some companies of scraping social media profiles to build facial recognition databases without the consent of individuals. We're also in the Faroe Islands to see why the government there has given every single one of its citizens an app which trains them to be more musical.
