Cush Jumbo, delves into the career of acclaimed British director James Marsh. Building on his experience as an outstanding documentary filmmaker at the BBC, James Marsh first gained international recognition with the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire (2008), which told the story of the inimitable Frenchman Philippe Petit's high-wire walk between the Twin Towers in New York. Marsh has since proved himself a versatile and dynamic director of drama, with his biopic of Stephen Hawking, The Theory of Everything (2014), winning lead actor Eddie Redmayne an Oscar, and has gained a reputation for telling compelling true-to-life stories. We meet Marsh in production on Night in Hatton Garden, an upcoming film about the infamous London jewel heist in 2015, featuring an outstanding cast of British talent including Michael Caine, Tom Courtney, Ray Winstone, and Jim Broadbent. We see James at work on set, and hear how he confronts the challenges of putting together a story based on real life, how to move from documentary to drama, and how the key to becoming a great director lies in your constant ability to learn, adapt, and keep an open mind.
