Legacy of Wounded Knee
Nick Lazaredes reports on life at the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota, and the efforts to improve life for young people there.
The Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota is one of the poorest places in the United States. It's home to the Oglala Lakota Nation, also known as the Oglala Sioux tribe. Pine Ridge is also the site of the massacre of Wounded Knee, where as many as 300 Native Americans were killed by the US army in 1890. Today, the reservation struggles with poverty and alcoholism, and is also tackling an extremely high rate of suicides among young Lakotans. Nick Lazaredes reports on life at the reservation, and the efforts to improve life for young people there.
