The UK will rejoin the Erasmus exchange scheme for students from 2027. Through the scheme, the EU provides funding for individuals to study, train, or volunteer in other European countries. Boris Johnson ended British involvement in the scheme following the 2016 Brexit referendum, arguing that it was costing the UK too much money. The move is considered to be one of the first tangible changes of Keir Starmer's EU reset. The UK and EU also agreed to start negotiations on electricity market integration, as well as setting a deadline to agree a food and drink trade deal. Has someone you know waited a long time for a driving test? The seven-week waiting time target for driving tests might not be reached for almost two years. That’s according to the National Audit Office, which also found some learner drivers are paying up to eight times the standard rate for a driving test through third parties. A backlog of over a million tests was created by the Covid pandemic, and this will not be cleared until November 2027. The UK Government’s Department for Transport said it was "taking decisive action to address the backlog", including employing military driving examiners.
