Jack DeJohnette in tribute

Soweto celebrates the life and music of the late inimitable American drummer and pianist.

‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades.

Tonight Soweto pays homage to an innovator of the music and on his instruments, jazz drummer and pianist Jack DeJohnette, who sadly died on Sunday 26th October at the age of 83. He was a highly-acclaimed bandleader and was internationally celebrated for his unique sound and dedication to searching for explorative ways of music making. Jack was well known for his time spent performing with Miles Davis, including on Miles’ timeless ‘Bitches Brew’ album. He also worked with other fellow greats including Keith Jarrett, John Patton, and Jackie McLean.

In this Friday night edition, Soweto reflects on the life and legacy of this seminal musician.
