The Wizard of Oz, Dara Dubh and the National Library of Scotland's 100 Years in a Day
We hear about The Wizard of Oz, the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh's Christmas production, from director Bruce Strachan and dame, a.k.a Glinda the Good Witch, Graham Crammond.
The Brunton Theatre’s Christmas production, The Wizard of Oz, will be playing in Musselburgh and Haddington next month. Director Bruce Strachan and one of the stars of show, Graham Crammond, who plays Glinda the Good Witch and is the panto dame in this production, join Len to chat about the show, which involves young community members among the cast.
Harpist and singer-songwriter Dara Dubh looks ahead to her gig on Friday evening in Edinburgh as part of the Soundhouse Winter Festival. Originally from Northern Ireland, Edinburgh-based Dara draws influence from many different musical styles and genres, and challenges the idea of the harp as a solely traditional instrument.
As part of the National Library of Scotland’s centenary celebrations, there will be a screening tonight of 100 Years in a Day, a compilation of films from the library’s Moving Image Archive spanning a day's activities - from breakfast scenes, getting ready and commuting to work and school, to leisure pursuits, evening meals, entertainment and bedtime. The films will offer a light-hearted look at everyday life and how daily rituals have changed over the last century – but may also show that some things never change! The library’s director of collections, access and research, Alison Stevenson, joins Len.
