Jackie McCarthy O'Brien - We Made It, Kid

Former Irish international and rugby player Jackie McCarthy O'Brien on her remarkable life and Irish Olympian Caitriona Jennings on breaking world records and training in Donegal

On 3 March 1961, there was a knock on a door. A mother opened it to find two nuns, a priest and two Garda officers standing on the doorstep. They had secured a court order to take her baby to an orphanage for adoption. That baby was former Irish international football and rugby player Jackie McCarthy O'Brien, the first female mixed race player. She has written about her life in a compelling new book, 'We made it, Kid'
Speaking of making it, Olympian Caitriona Jennings has just broken the women's world record for 100 miles at the Tunnel Hill 100 mile in Illinois, the first time she had competed in the race! She tells Anna about ultra distance events, eating on the run and training in the hills of Donegal!

Plus tracks from the Sunday Songbook, the perfect soundtrack to your Sunday.
