Ahead of Monday's celebration of the conductor's centenary, Janáček's opera is conducted by Charles Mackerras.

Presented by Gillian Moore in conversation with Nigel Simeone.

Australian conductor and passionate Janáček advocate Charles Mackerras would have turned 100 years old on Monday, and BBC Radio 3 is marking the occasion with a day celebrating his music-making, his passion and his wit.

Tonight, we hear one of his most beloved recordings, that of Janáček's opera The Cunning Little Vixen. Based on a series of newspaper drawings of the adventures of a fox cub, it has delighted audiences ever since its premiere in 1924.
