Katarina Johnson-Thompson begins the defence of her world title as the women’s heptathlon gets under way with the 100m hurdles. It’s a busy day for the Olympic silver medallist, with the high jump, shot put and 200 metres all taking place in the single evening session out in Tokyo.
George Mills has recovered from a fractured wrist to start his 5000m campaign in the heats. Jakob Ingebrigtsen is the defending champion but has been struggling with injury all season.
Keely Hodgkinson’s campaign for a first world title continues with the women’s 800 metres reaching the semi-final stage.
And there are four huge finals to end day 7. Karsten Warholm and Femke Bol are the favourites for 400m hurdle gold, with Shericka Jackson and Noah Lyles both back to defend the titles they won in Budapest two years ago. British champions Zharnel Hughes and Dina Asher-Smith are also hoping to be in the mix in the 200m finals.
