After missing the whole of last season through injury, Great Britain’s Jazmin Sawyers is in action, aiming to qualify for the women’s long jump final tomorrow. The fastest men and women in the world, including defending Olympic champions Noah Lyles and Julien Alfred as well as Dina Asher-Smith and Zharnel Hughes, are also in action in the 100 metre heats.

Ethiopia’s Guday Tsegay is back to defend her 10,000 metre crown, and despite missing much of the season though injury, Ryan Crouser has confirmed he will be in Tokyo, aiming to win the men’s shot put for the third time in a row. And Mondo Duplantis, who has already broken the world pole vault record again this season, is aiming for another big height in qualifying for the final.
