The Wigan-Saints rivalry is one of the most famous in rugby league, but this will be the first time the women’s teams have met in a major final. Saints have been the dominant force in an ever-expanding women’s game and are aiming to lift the trophy for the fifth consecutive time.

However, Wigan, who made several key new signings ahead of this season, are emerging as real contenders. This is their first ever Challenge Cup final, but head coach Denis Betts is very familiar with the Wembley showpiece, having won the famous cup seven times as an integral part of the legendary Wigan side that dominated the competition in the 1980s and 1990s.
