Donald Macleod follows Elgar on a bicycle ride through the countryside.
Edward Elgar was a man of many passions; this week, Donald Macleod explores five of the composer’s greatest loves. As a boy, Elgar had enjoyed skipping school to explore the countryside, and later in life he found an escape from the stress of composing in the form of a bicycle he nicknamed ‘Mr. Phoebus’.
In today’s programme, Donald explores Elgar’s passion for cycling, from his first wobbly excursions to his odd adventures around England.
