Zakia Sewell invites Bradford-based British-Nigerian writer Lanre Bakare to join her in the studio and discuss the themes explored in his new book, We Were There: How Black Culture, Resistance and Community Shaped Modern Britain. The non-fiction volume draws on the cultural and social history of Black Britain in the Thatcher era, 1977-1990, across the UK, beyond London. Elsewhere in the show, Zakia spins her favourite new releases and old gems from across the musical spectrum.
