Part of BBC Radio 4 Extra’s All Request Weekend ****
John Julius Norwich quizzes Dilys Powell, Frank Muir, Antonia Fraser and Denis Norden about the origins and meanings of words.
My Word! first hit radio airwaves in 1956. It was created by Dick Barton: Special Agent co-creator Edward J Mason and The Archers producer Tony Shryane.
It pits team captains (and creators of Take It From Here) Frank Muir and Denis Norden against each other - joined by guests - as they tussle over the origins and meanings of words.
Over the years it had three main chairs, beginning with Jack Longland, with John Julius Norwich taking the seat in 1976, followed by Michael O'Donnell.
My Word! came to an end in 1988.
Producer: Tony Shryane
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in October 1979.
