Russell Martin’s Saints side made a host of signings to prepare for their return to the Premier League, but their new recruits couldn’t prevent them losing their opening three top-flight matches. Since Manchester United famously beat the south coast club 9-0 in February 2021, there have only been a total of five goals in the subsequent four matches between the sides.

Other games see defending champions Manchester City face Brentford and Liverpool taking on Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
