Between the Ears - Lure

Daljit Nagra selects Between the Ears: Lure - Alison Lock's memory of a near-fatal accident on the Yorkshire moors. From 2021.

Poet Daljit Nagra revisits the BBC's poetry archive and selects Between the Ears: Lure

Alison Lock's dreamlike journey describes her dramatic, near-fatal accident.

One morning, on her regular walk on the Yorkshire moors, she slipped and fell into a millpond, breaking her back in seven places along the way.

Alison has no memory of the moment of falling, but every second of clawing her way back to life, from one handhold to the next, is vividly imprinted and distilled into this poetic sequence.
