Brian and Thomasina shake their heads.
“They don’t know!” Sean says. “You don’t know what you’re missing! Your mother would know what it is! It would have been used every Friday when your mother cleaned her doorstep, and her brasses!”
Thomasina is laughing.
“She did!” Sean insists. “Every Friday! She went out and cleaned her knocker and letterbox, and the door handle. And your mother would have stood back and said, ‘Look at my brasses! They’re the talk of the street.”
