Prisoners’ Education Trust
Prisoners' Education Trust (PET) is the UK’s leading prison education charity, supporting around 1500 people each year. We believe that everyone in prison, wherever they are and whatever their background, should have access to education.
Paul’s story

Paul left school at fifteen with no qualifications. He got caught up in crime and ended up in prison. It was there he discovered a love for art and applied for a course through PET. It was the start of his journey to gaining a Masters in Fine Art.
The start of a new life

Paul is now a professional artist, alongside working for charities including PET. His sculpture of an athlete on a starting block stands outside Middlesbrough College. He says it represents college as the start of another part of the learner’s life.
Lives transformed through learning

Paul says, “I’m a role model for my nieces and nephews. They see your future is not written because of where you come from. It’s a hard struggle but you can better yourself. It’s all from those little steps in a prison education department.”
