'What is white gravy?'

The Tamnaherin Cowboy is enjoying his stews with white gravy. Iris wonders what that is.

“Your oul mucker, Tamnaherin Cowboy here,” says the Tamnaherin Cowboy. “C’mere, do you know what I got last night? A big bowl of stews with white gravy and sausages in it! Absolutely mint!”

“Thank you,” Sean says, “I think mint means it was lovely, but what is white gravy?”

“I’m baffled!” says Iris in Ballyclare. “White gravy? I’m dying to hear what white gravy is! In all my years I never thought I’d be baffled when it came to cooking!”

“I'm married to Liverpool girl,” says Danny in Clacton, “and white gravy is a Scouse thing.”

“Pay attention now,” Sean says, “because I don’t cook. Gravy to me is just something that appears on the plate.”

“They don't put stock cubes in it,” says Danny, “and it's lovely. They make the stew with beef and potatoes onions and carrots, the way we do an Irish stew, but no stock cubes, so it's white!”

“You know what that white gravy is?” says Mary Harkin. “It's the grease off the sausage, then potatoes in it, and it makes your gravy look white. And it is disgusting!”
