Azerbaijan: Land of Fire
As Azerbaijan looks towards tourism to help secure its prosperity, Rajan Datar visits the prosperous city of Baku before heading to the Caucasus Mountains.
Azerbaijan once produced over half of the world’s oil. Now, three decades on from the end of Soviet rule, the country is still heavily reliant on its natural resources for its wealth. However, as the world falls out of love with fossil fuels, Azerbaijan is looking towards tourism to help secure its prosperity.
Rajan Datar starts his journey in Baku, a prosperous city that has been dubbed the world’s 'caviar capital'. He travels on the metro and meets a man who is passionate about rediscovering, and sharing, Baku’s pre-Soviet past. After leaving the city, he heads to the Caucasus Mountains to meet an unlikely YouTube star whose traditional rustic cooking lessons have become a hit around the world.
