Ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women's Football World Cup, Talking Movies revisits Bend It Like Beckham and profiles the career of Gurinder Chadha.
Ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women's Football World Cup, Talking Movies revisits one of the most celebrated female soccer movies of all time, Bend It Like Beckham, and profiles the career of Gurinder Chadha, the British Asian director who made it. Bend It Like Beckham, starring Keira Knightley, became a surprise international hit in 2002, putting Chadha on the map. It was a landmark movie in many ways ahead of its time, with still resonant themes that touch on racism, class, gender and sexuality. Tom Brook visits Gurinder Chadha in her London home to discuss her films and find out what makes her tick. Chadha, who is Britain's most prolific female director, is candid, insightful and witty in looking back at her remarkable film career.
