'It's all to do with the way a bird waddles...'

Sean admits to jaywalking in the past, and wonders what the word means.

"What is the meaning," Sean says, "of jaywalking? Does it still exist? I am asking as someone who was once nearly arrested for it, but I managed to get off with a severe warning. But this is what I want to know. What does it mean? What is the J for? Or the jay?"

"I was told many years ago," Davy in Bangor says, "it has to do with the way a bird waddles across a road."

"What do you mean the way a bird walks across the road?" Sean says. "You never see a bird walking across the road.""

"Watch it the next time. They waddle. And there is a bird called the blue jay."

"Not married to that, Davy."

"I've looked up the meaning of jay," says Roddy in Lurgan. "It says 'a stupid or a foolish person'"

"I was stopped once," Sean says. "I was going to be summonsed..."
