Gingerbread supports single parent families in the UK on their single parent journey. Our mission is to stand with and support single parents to overcome disadvantage, inequality and injustice. Since 1918, we’ve been supporting, advising and campaigning with single parents to help them and their children to thrive. Whatever success means for a single parent such as a happy, healthy family, a flexible job, stable finances or a chance to study, we work with them to make it happen. Right now our work has never been more important as we come out of the COVID-19 crisis and single parent families face desperate times due to the cost of living crisis.

The Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline provides support and expert advice on anything from dealing with a break-up or bereavement to going back to work or sorting out child maintenance, benefit or tax credit issues.

Our information pages contain a wealth of regularly updated guidance, signposting and general information for all single parents on all aspects of single parent life.

Jess, a single parent, left her partner after he attacked her in front of their three-year-old daughter for the second time. She felt overwhelmed, but after using Gingerbread’s website, she found support and a community of single parents she could relate to.
