Susan comes to a terrible realisation and Ben digs himself a hole.
Beth watches impressed as Ben tags a calf. He’s intrigued by her work at the livestock market. Happy and flirty, the pair set off for a picnic on Lakey Hill. Beth’s amazed at the food Ben’s provided, and the views. They can’t see Lower Loxley but Beth declares Elizabeth a class act, who’s changed her dad. For herself, she’s glad she’s reconciled with Vince. Her boyfriend turned out to have cheated with her best friend. She can’t bear people who move on so quickly and flit from one relationship to another. Ben assures her quickly that’s not his style.
Oblivious Neil gushes about Shula’s kindness to Alice. Susan’s looking for her favourite lasagne dish, which Neil reveals is still at The Stables. He suggests Susan asks Shula for it back, to which Susan replies she just might. Later Shula hunts for the dish as Susan remarks pointedly that it was Neil who made the lasagne. She questions Shula closely on the help Neil’s been giving her with her garden, commenting that Ambridge View could do with some attention too. When Shula lets slip that Neil had kept coming over when she told him he didn’t need to come, shocked Susan makes a hasty exit. Upset and simmering, she sets about cleaning her oven. Baffled Neil’s mystified by her attitude and suggests eating at the Bull; he’s famished. Her silence drives him to head off on his own, declaring he’s past caring. Stunned Susan responds that she is too.
