There’s a near miss for Justin, and Alistair’s situation becomes ever more complicated.

Tracy gets the printer and photocopier at the vet practice working again and then spars with Jakob over his brusque manner. Alistair interrupts them and insists Jakob covers half of the small animal clinic which would usually be done by Denise. Jakob resists; he’s got important test results to look at. Alistair convinces him to call Denise and apologise in the hope she will return – no one can run the practice as well as her.
On their way back to Ambridge, Lilian and Justin agree that a boat is not the right investment for them. With Lilian’s true attitude to sailing in the open, Justin now sees all of the costs involved in owning a boat. Lilian wants Justin to stop teasing her about her infamous skipper experience. She rips up the copy of the newspaper article that Nancy gave him. With a boat now off the list of potential investments, Lilian is keen to press on with the purchase of Double Bill. But Jakob’s examinations have uncovered the horse has a serious condition.
Mousse escapes her crate and runs riot. Once recaptured, Tracy proudly recounts her capture of the rat that was running for its life with Mousse on the loose. Alistair’s keen for her to take the dog back to Greenacres but Tracy is hard to shift. She then remembers Mousse’s owner needs to go into a nursing home, which means to Alistair’s dismay he’ll be in charge of Mousse for a while longer.
