The Aldridge family attempt to hold everything together and Lynda makes a shocking discovery.

Harrison is keen to enjoy a rare joint afternoon off with Fallon but Fallon is preoccupied with putting the finishing touches to her scarecrow. Harrison shares the gossip that the fete, or at least the scarecrow competition, could be cancelled thanks to Audrey and Hilary. Later, while picking up litter on Fallon’s suggestion, Harrison meets Lynda who declares the fete’s scarecrow trail is definitely going ahead but she’s revealing nothing about the event’s mystery celebrity.

Brian and Jennifer are pleased to hear from Ruairi, who’s arrived in Ireland. Brian momentarily wondered if his subdued reaction to Ruairi telling them he was bisexual has anything to do with him leaving Ambridge so quickly. But he pushes this thought away and lays the blame fully at Alice’s door. Then, Brian and Jennifer discover that Alice has gone; it looks like she’s taken luggage too. They make calls and word spreads round the village quickly. Alice is missing.

Lynda summons Harrison to The Bull where their scarecrow, already out for the fete’s trail, has been adapted to look like Alice. Meanwhile, Brian is about to begin a search when Jennifer gets a text from Alice: she’s alright and she’ll be in touch soon. Brian’s not sure how much more he can take of Alice’s antics, but Jennifer suggests they just need to let them happen. Brian wonders what to do if she doesn’t want to get better. Perhaps we have to let that happen too, replies Jennifer.
