Ben receives an unexpected gift and Eddie makes a rash decision.

Eddie’s still got a bee in his bonnet about Lynda, and Clarrie’s sacking from the Mystery Plays. Clarrie assures him she’s over it and recommends Eddie moves on with enjoying his 70th birthday celebrations. There are two cakes as promised; she points out the non-vegan version for him. Eddie’s just pleased he’s not forced to endure Mia’s vegan one. Later Clarrie catches him tucking into what he believes to be the non-vegan cake. It’s delicious, he couldn’t resist, mutters Eddie through the crumbs. Laughing Clarrie admits it’s the vegan one he’s enjoying. Eddie’s confounded; he’s been duped and everyone was in on it. He hadn’t realised Mia could be so devious. Not devious – principled, insists Clarrie. Like me, retorts Eddie, and it gives him an idea. He resigns from Lynda’s production – on principle. He will, however, continue with his commitment to the Darrington production.

Josh ribs Ben as Ben gets the caravan all painted and ready for his birthday date with Evie. Ben’s excited to see what Leonard’s got him for his birthday – only to discover it’s a time capsule. Leonard enthuses about the intrigue around burying it. Ben masks his disappointment and makes all the right grateful noises. But, as Ben points out to Josh later, at least Leonard made an effort. Ben’s opinion is changed even more when Leonard suggests a photo of his Covid vaccination should go into the time capsule. Ben’s imagination is caught by Leonard’s moving account of the process; this could be his favourite birthday present!
