Tweet Take 5 : Coot and Moorhen

Coots are one of those birds easy to ignore, yet they are worth a second glance. These all-black birds are somewhat larger than its cousin, the moorhen, and easily identified on open water by a distinctive white beak and 'shield' above the beak, which gave rise to the phrase "as bald as a coot". Moorhens while looking similar have more colour about them, with a red and yellow beak and long, green legs, they prefer smaller bodies of water and wet areas too.
