Mercer MacWilliam Hughes on winning best film at the national 2020 Into Film Awards and 11-year-old Cormac Thompson on being the youngest artist ever signed to Decca records.
20 year old MacWilliams Hughes from Drumbo has won best film at the national 2020 Into Film Awards for his 10 minute short film “Bob’s Your Uncle” which captures nuanced sibling rivalry and relationships. He chats to John about his inspirations and growing up with a passion for film. We hear the amazing voice of 11-year-old Cormac Thompson. He has a special relationship with his Nana Colleen and when he sent a recording of Danny Boy to her during lockdown, little did they know it would lead him to becoming the youngest signing ever to Decca records. John Connell talks about his memoir “The Running Book”- a journey through memory, landscape and history and what it feels to be alive when running. Brent Cassidy updates us on the 15th Irish Festival of Oulu from Finland which has gone virtual this year with some of the best names in traditional Irish music and Paula McIntyre bakes tear and share bread with a bagna cauda – Italian for hot dip, with garlic and anchovies.
