Nadiya Hussain, Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Travis

TV cook and writer Nadiya Hussain, Top Gear presenters Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris and Travis all join Zoe Ball on the show for a Friends Phone In Friday.

TV cook and writer Nadiya Hussain is chatting to Zoe about her latest book and BBC series 'Nadiya Bakes'. She won the Great British Bake Off in 2015 and has since gone on to be a judge on Junior Bake Off, write a novel and present her own two part documentary in Bangladesh called The Chronicles of Nadiya. Top Gear presenters Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris phone into the show to tell Zoe about the latest series and the adventures they'll be having. Along with Paddy McGuinness they go bigger than ever, as they test new cars, old cars and their own physical endurance to the very limit. This time around, they’ll be tackling a giant Wall of Death in old insurance write-offs, downhill skiing in holiday hire cars, unveiling a go-anywhere fully electric powered ice-cream van for the twenty-first century, and attempting to survive 24 hours in their cars. All topped off with Top Gear’s traditional condiments – exotic supercars, fast laps and The Stig – and brought to you from the show’s new studio set-up: a drive-in studio on the Top Gear test track.
Fran Healy from Travis chats to Zoe about their latest album '10 Songs' and the band have recorded two special live tracks for the show. Co-produced by both Fran and Baynton, and recorded at RAK Studio, ’10 Songs’ is about the way life comes at love and what love does to weather those challenges. The Travis back catalogue includes the classics like Writing To Reach You, Why Does It Always Rain On Me? and Sing.

Along with Tina Daheley on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Zoe and the team have the best start to your morning.

There's also a daily Pause For Thought and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought
From Dr Jim Harris, Art Historian:
A couple of weeks ago, for a miniature holiday, my partner Susie and I went to stay in a caravan at Ringstead Bay in Dorset, lent to us by my kind friend Vickey. It poured on the way down and when we stopped, mid-afternoon, at Tolpuddle, to pay homage to the Tolpuddle Martyrs, transported to Australia in the 1830s for starting a union, it was very bleak indeed. Now I love this beautiful land of ours. I will holiday anywhere from Cornwall to Scotland and be happy. But that Thursday afternoon, considering the prospect of 48 hours in a tin box listening to the rain hammering on the roof and the wind scrabbling to get in through the windows, I was miserable.
And, there in the slate-grey Dorset damp, I was jealous. I was jealous of all the people on more glamorous holidays they didn’t deserve: in Spain, in the Maldives. Even the Tolpuddle Martyrs were shipped to Australia. It’s sunny there. But as we drove the last miles over the downs and into sight of the sea, the wind peeled back the clouds and it turned out that summer had only been resting for a moment. After that, for two days, the sun shone and the sea sparkled as we walked the coast path. We drank wine with fish and chips, and it was glorious. In the Bible, there’s a poem, Psalm 73, which pretty much describes that jealousy, the discontent that comes from seeing others get what I want: “I was envious of the arrogant; I saw the prosperity of the wicked”
But halfway through, it changes tack. “When my soul was embittered…I was stupid and ignorant” says the poet, before arriving at the simple conclusion, “As for me, it’s good to be near God”. Now I know that won’t work for everybody; but everybody has something it’s good to be near - a friend, a lover, a dog, a tree, a quiet spot in the park. As for me, it was good to walk with Susie in the wind and the sunshine. And as for all of us, I reckon it’s good, when we can, to make sure we’re wherever it is that makes us feel lucky enough not to wish to be anywhere else.
