Peter Jackson on Commentators
The Welsh greats with the posh voices who enthralled generations of fans
Peter Jackson grew up getting his sports fix from a crackly radio listening to some of the great voices of sports reporting - little realising that the plummy voice of Raymond Glendenning at the Boat Race or the Matthews FA Cup final was a lad from Newport in Monmouthshire. In the company of ace commentator Ron Jones, he hears about how another Welsh boy, Peter Jones, grew into perhaps the greatest of the BBC's roster of sports voices, memorably dealing with the aftermaths of the Heisel and Hillsborough stadium disasters. A celebration of the ability of the expert commentator to paint the greatest pictures.
