2. The Subject of Marriage

Urged on by her suitor and her own desires, Clowance broaches the topic of marriage with her parents. Read by Richard Goulding.

Urged on by her suitor and her own desires, Clowance Poldark broaches the topic of marriage with her parents.

Winston Graham’s novel set in Cornwall continues the story of the passions of the Poldark family and their friends, neighbours, rivals and enemies.

All this takes place in 1812 against a backdrop of England’s continuing military campaign against Napoleon’s army in Spain and Portugal

A world which seems so far away from the pressing concerns of Cornish life and which nevertheless beckons Ross Poldark to attend to his duties in parliament as an MP.

Abridged by Jill Waters and Isobel Creed.

Read by Richard Goulding.

Producer: Jill Waters

A Waters Company production for BBC Radio 4, first broadcast in August 2020.
