This week's wines
Fish ball noodle soupClassics No.32 Touraine Sauvignon Blanc, 2019, FranceM&S, £8.00
New Classics range has just hit M&S shelves with a selection from some of the world’s most well-known wine regions. This is from the Loire Valley, famous for its Sauvignon Blanc (think Sancerre!). The M&S winemakers worked with Touraine producer Paul Buisse to make this fresh-as-a-daisy dry white. Bright and fresh, it’s full of green apple fruit flavours with a twist of citrus. Like adding a squeeze of lemon to the dish, making all the flavours pop.
Oyster sauce chicken with Chinese leaf Irresistible Fiano, 2019, ItalyCo-op, £7.00
From the shin of Italy’s boot, the low-yielding, early ripening Fiano grape thrives here in vineyards of the Benevento region not far from Naples. Ripe and round, this is full of white peach and nectarine flavours along with a generous streak of lemon peel. That extra oomph means it can take on the chicken and the spice without ruining the party.
