This week's wines
Duckstrami with smacked cucumber Stellenrust Cinsault, 2018, South AfricaWaitrose, From £7.99
Stellenrust Cinsault is silky and firm with fine tannins and a lighter structure that makes a superb alternative to the classic Pinot Noir pairing with duck. This one comes from a South African Fairtrade farm near Stellenbosch, old vines and for the usual £9.99 is considered a steal. At £7.99 it is steal of the century.
Fried steaks with buttery spring greensBad Co American IPA, UKAsda, £1.25
For the beef, the bubbles in beer are fab with the crunch of the coating. I tasted a wide range of beers - pilsners and lagers while refreshing lacked the texture and depth to pair with the beef. This all American IPA has a balance of rich malt with refreshing hops that nails the beef and delivers oomph that’s for the horseradish in the gravy.
