Shearing - with the need for social distancing in pens and a drop in the price of wool, this season, is turning out to be a challenge for the sector and as the shearing season gets under way, there are concerns about a possible shortage of shearers. Normally, around a fifth of the British flock is sheared by itinerant workers predominantly from Australia and New Zealand. But this year, they’re choosing not to come.
Damara Sheep - or less exotically named "Fat Tailed" sheep is a breed that's common in the Middle East, that hasn't been found here in Wales - that is until now! Last year, the embryos and semen of Damara were imported into the country with the aim of breeding a flock here, the first lambs have just been born.
