Passionate feminist Vonny LeClerc never imagined she would have a cheerleader for a daughter. Yet Vonny’s 12-year-old Heidi loves competitive cheer. But as Vonny follows Heidi and her teammates to a big competition in Birmingham, she finds out that the modern sport of cheer, which involves challenging stunts and a relentless training schedule, is a far cry from the 80s stereotype and can be a force for female empowerment.
