The police have found a bomb during a major security operation targeting the dissident republican grouping, the New IRA. It's described as a command wire-initiated improvised explosive device and the police say it would have killed or maimed anyone nearby when it detonated. Rioters attacked the police with more than 40 petrol bombs during the operation and more than a dozen homes were evacuated.
