Elizabeth fears the worst and Peggy offers a solution
Ambridge Hall takes delivery of some books, which gives Lynda an idea. Since nobody seems likely to put on the panto this year, the stage is set for her directorial swansong…
Brian’s noticed a drop in the wheat yield and blames Adam. Jennifer points out that Adam’s been working very hard, but Brian isn’t going to keep quiet about his poor decision making.
Alistair visits Lower Loxley to treat Cranford Crystal for lameness, and Elizabeth confronts him about his divorce. She isn’t happy that he’s getting Shula to take to blame. He insists it was a mutual decision. Elizabeth is sceptical, and coolly turns down his offer to support Freddie at his sentencing on Friday. Alistair isn’t technically part of the family now. Alistair counters that it seems to him like Freddie needs all the support he can get, especially after Friday. Alistair realises Elizabeth doesn’t know about Friday. He has to fill in the details. Elizabeth reflects that she barely knows her children. But Alistair reassures her she’s coping brilliantly under the circumstances. She thanks him – it’s been good to talk. Later, Elizabeth tells Shula how glad she is that Shula and Alistair were there for Freddie. She’s terrified the police will find out he lied in his statement – that could mean a lengthy prison sentence.
