The Defra Secretary of State, Michael Gove, announces major changes to the system of farm subsidies, during a visit to the two farming conferences currently taking place in Oxford. Once the UK has left the EU, he plans to reform the current system, so that farmers and landowners are only paid subsidy in return for work done for the public good - such as environmental improvement, or providing access to the countryside. Charlotte Smith gauges reaction from both farmers and environmental campaigners to the announcement.
