Kate has a birthday surprise, and Lilian will not be rushed.

At Spiritual Home Kate and Alice's birthday party begins with a surprise. Brian and Jennifer have brought Nolly over from South Africa for two weeks. Kate's delighted, but can't completely hide her disappointment that Sipho claims to be too busy to join her. Kate introduces everyone to her "little Nolly", who asks to be called Noluthando, since she's no longer so little. Brian's the first to give Kate "the gift on an honest opinion", praising her work at Spiritual Home. Unfortunately this goes to her head, and she barely acknowledges the rest of the family's constructive criticism. Alice points out that Kate can be tactless. Kate reciprocates by informing Alice that she's selfish.

At a networking function Lilian's behaviour irritates Justin. Lilian insists she's just having a bit of fun, but Justin insists that she has offended an influential contact. Lilian's relieved when he suggests they leave early, and reminds Justin that they are due at Alice and Kate's party. Justin stays long enough to be polite, then Lilian has to invent an excuse to leave. Back home Justin reveals that he's been preparing paperwork for a takeover of Amside, despite the fact that Lilian hasn't agreed to anything. The atmosphere becomes tense. Justin insists they shouldn't fight, and Lilian concedes that everything is getting on top of her. Justin promises that everything will be absolutely fine.
