Kate focuses on joy, and Harrison feels the pressure.
Jennifer is organising a surprise for Kate's fortieth birthday, but it is proving trickier than anticipated. Brian spots Kate in the garden at Home Farm emptying her possessions onto a sheet, and Jennifer goes to investigate. Kate explains that she is decluttering her life, keeping only things that bring her joy. To Kate's annoyance Jennifer rescues several objects, including a doll's dress she made when Kate was little. They may not bring Kate joy, but they matter to Jennifer.
Adam shares with Jennifer his concerns about surrogacy. Ian becoming a biological father feels like a big step beyond adoption. Will Ian and the baby have a bond he can never share? Plus, he was expecting an older child, and isn't sure he'd cope with a newborn. Jennifer reassures him that parenthood is the same however a child arrives. And Adam agrees with her that it is too late to back out now.
Harrison tests Rex on the dossier of Darrington players. Darrington's captain keeps trying to wind them up online. And recent poor performances have damaged morale. Harrison has organised extra nets, taking them to four sessions in a week. He is determined to make sure that the Ambridge team show Darrington what they are really made of.
