From Daffodils to Lavender

We encourage people to buy local food produce and cut down food miles but what about flowers? The National Farmers Union has called for the labelling of cut flowers - to show where they were grown. Currently just 12 per cent of the flowers sold in the UK are grown here. But following years of the multi-billion pound flower market being dominated by Dutch imports, small-scale British growers are starting to gain ground with the public's growing interest in seasonal and local flowers. Rachael Garside is at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and takes a look at the cut flower in industry in Wales. She meets an artisan flower grower and finds out how lavender grows here in Wales D
