Toby cannot be cheered, and Tom offers his philosophy.

After being dumped by Pip, Toby mopes around, leaving the Bungalow in a mess. Bert tries to console him by recalling a time he and Freda fell out badly. Rex reminds Toby that he still has a gin order to fulfil, but Toby doesn't see the point without Pip. Bert offers to cheer him up with a poem.

The cricket team could be a man down, with Harrison held up at work. Rex will take on the role captain if Harrison doesn't make it. They worry that Molly might react very badly to Darrington's sledging if she has to play.

At the Bridge Farm shop, Pip gets a frosty reception from Tom. Still hoping to heal the rift between their families, she opens up about how the IBR virus spread from Brookfield. Tom grudgingly admits that Pip has had a tough time. Pip's determined not to make excuses. That all happened long before her break-up with Toby. At the mention of the break-up Tom becomes more sympathetic. He reflects on his own failed relationships with Kirsty and Brenda. Maybe people like him and Pip are better suited to just accepting that they're better off staying single...
