Helen and Pat wonder if Rob has really left Ambridge - Helen doubts that he would give up the chance of seeing Jack. She keeps thinking he could turn up at any moment. Pat asks about Tom's whereabouts this afternoon and Helen provides a cover story. Tony goes to Rob's apartment and finds it empty and advertised to let.

Roy sees Tracy waiting for the bus in the rain and reluctantly pulls over to give her a lift. She wants to go all the way to Felpersham. It becomes clear that Roy's tastes are boring to Tracy. She tells him it's not working out between them and gets out of the car. Roy is relieved!

Kirsty and Tom wait for the picture from the scan. Kirsty says he can tell his parents about the baby. Tom has made contact with a Nuffield scholar and hopes Kirsty will be all right while he is away - but Kirsty is emphatic that she can cope without him. Later, Tom tells his parents that he and Kirsty are having a baby but they're not a couple. They find it hard to understand how the situation is going to work, but obviously they are happy for Tom. Pat and Tony think on how things never seem to be straightforward for them.
