The first ever Olympics in south America has hit the half way point. In Rio, Team GB are now EIGHTH in the medal table. And yesterday Team Ireland got a badly need boost, with the rowers the talk of the town, and Ballymena's Steven Donnelly through to the next round in boxing. But these Olympics have not been without controversy. A severe recession in Brazil, a nationwide Zika outbreak and the governor of Rio declaring a state of financial emergency not to mention the ongoing Russian doping scandal. Yesterday we brought you the story of petrol station owners around the Ards Peninsula claiming the police are 'washing their hands' of 'drive offs' at their forecourts. It was after the PSNI said that owners will have to pursue non-payment of fuel themselves, because many are genuine mistakes and placing a preventable burden on police resources.

Reports this morning that Animal rights group PETA want to change the name of Eggs AND Bacon Bay - in Tasmania. Apparently they want it renamed as Apple and Cherry Bay - to make sure people are not being encouraged to make poor dietary choices.

A dog being cared for at Dogs Trust, Ballymena, dubbed the one "nobody wanted", is still waiting on a loving owner to take him home. Six months after Dogs Trust Ballymena launched a nationwide appeal to find a home for the seven-year-old on Valentine's Day, Labrador cross Vinnie, the "gentle giant" is still seeking a loving owner.
