Ian wonders about his friendship with Helen, and Lynda is full of ideas.

Johnny and Josh discuss Johnny's eighteenth birthday and the "lass" that Johnny insists is a mate. They gleefully take a look at the combine harvester when Adam's back is turned.

Anna goes to visit Ian, who is on the phone dealing with a disaster in the Grey Gables kitchen. Anna asks Ian about his friendship with Helen and how they came to fall out. Ian whole-heartedly agrees to be a character witness, hoping it will go some way in repairing their friendship.

Lynda and Robert walk Scruff around the llama paddock. Lynda marvels at all the things she can turn her attention to now she is no longer organising the fete. She wants to find out more about the Borchester jigsaw club. Robert reminds her that while they may have more spare time they don't have any more spare money. Later in the day Robert finds Lynda unable to settle on anything. They chew over the rumours they've been hearing about the fete. Lynda says it's no longer her job to care - rank inexperience is steering the fete towards disaster!
