I CAN
More than half the children in some parts of the UK start
school with a communication difficulty and are likely to struggle with
talking, understanding, learning and making friends. I CAN is a UK charity
supporting children so that they have the communication skills they need. Its
mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a
difficulty speaking or understanding. I CAN offers a free Enquiry Service
giving information and advice for anyone concerned about a child’s
communication.
I CAN also provides training, programmes and resources for staff
in mainstream schools to identify and deal with children’s communication
difficulties. For children with the most complex and severe communication needs
I CAN provides specialist education, therapy and care at their two special
schools, Meath in Surrey for children aged 4-11 years old and Dawn House in
Nottinghamshire for children aged 11-19 years old.
