Good Morning!
First thing in the morning, life can sometimes look bleak especially when it’s still dark! Is it possible to have hope in such circumstances?
The prophet Samuel told the Old Testament shepherd boy David that God would one day make him King, but there was scant evidence to prove it.
David was driven from the palace by King Saul’s murderous envy and he lived like a fugitive for years on end.
But David’s lowest moment came when he and his band of men returned to their base and discovered their camp burned to the ground. Their families had been captured.
For the first time, his men turned on him. David was devastated. It seemed he’d lost everything. But then we read: “David found strength in the Lord his God.” David prayed and asked God for help and through a series of remarkable events David and his men were able to find and bring back their families.
David was always so honest about his trials, yet, in each and every experience David had hope. Why? Because he believed his future depended on God, not his present circumstances.
David’s hope wasn’t tied to having an upbeat personality or because he practiced the power of positive thinking! David knew that life was difficult and often unfair. Things could turn out badly. But when David turned to God he saw that his difficulties could be occasions for God’s grace and help.
It wasn’t self-confidence that gave David hope. It was God-confidence!
Lord, we need hope and God-confidence today. Please give us the faith we need to trust in You. Amen.
