Independent Age
Independent Age is a national charity supporting thousands of older people through the ‘ABC’ of advice, befriending and campaigning. We work to combat loneliness and financial poverty among older people, and campaign to make the UK a better country to grow old in.
Advice

We run a free national advice line with particular expertise in welfare benefits and social care, and produce free factsheets, guides and handbooks. Our popular Wise Guides are full of useful tips on money, staying independent and social, and choosing a care home.
Befriending

Our volunteers provide much-needed company to older people like Ron, who’s portrayed in this appeal. The 88-year-old is widowed and housebound and was very lonely when he contacted us. He now receives regular visits from Alison and two other volunteer and says, “It was very, very hard not having anyone to talk to.”
Campaigning

We use the knowledge and understanding gained from our frontline services to campaign on issues that impact on the wellbeing of older people, like abuse and neglect in care, loneliness and carers’ rights.
