As Lily Dale fights scarlet fever, Dr Crofts is a frequent visitor at the Small House. His patient, however, is not the only focus of his attentions. The Small House of Allington is the fifth instalment of The Barchester Chronicles, Anthony Trollope's much-loved series of witty, gently satirical stories of provincial life set within the fictional cathedral town of Barchester and the surrounding county of Barsetshire.
